Our team of student developers – Amelia Matheson, E.J. Walker IV, Tristan “Lonzo” Britt, Alicia Hall, Camryn James, Anita Duncan, and Tristan Anaya – is leading a comprehensive digital preservation initiative at several HBCU institutions, including Texas Southern University. The project encompasses vital archival scanning work and specialized training in digital preservation techniques, with a particular focus on digitizing valuable collections including terracotta statues and historical documents.
This initiative goes beyond basic digitization – it’s about democratizing access to historical materials that have been largely inaccessible due to their fragile nature. By creating high-quality digital copies, we’re ensuring these precious artifacts can be studied and shared while preserving the originals.
Our work transforms delicate documents, rare photographs, and sensitive materials into durable digital assets, making them accessible to researchers, students, and community members worldwide. This preservation initiative serves a dual purpose: protecting irreplaceable historical artifacts while making them available to the very communities whose history they represent.
Interested in digital preservation? We’re committed to sharing these important historical resources – reach out to explore how we can help preserve and share your institution’s heritage!
